PURPOSE: To provide such a liquid crystal display element in which the rising and orienting state of liquid crystal molecules is made different for each region of the pixels when voltage is applied between electrodes so that a wide visual angel can be obtd., and the orienting film can be easily formed without decreasing the reliability. CONSTITUTION: Orienting films 15, 16 formed on a pair of substrates 11, 12 are made of polymer films treated by irradiation of UV rays. Each orienting film 15, 16 is divided into plural regions a, b corresponding to each pixel (D), and the dose amt. of UV rays in the specified region (a) is made different from that in other region (b) of the plural regions so that the liquid crystal molecules 17a are twisted by the pretilt angleθa,θb from the orienting films 15, 16 according to the dose amt. of UV rays in the respective region (a), (b).
