1437627 Reels MULTI-STROKE HANDBRAKE CONTROLS Ltd 2 July 1974 [10 July 1973] 32799/73 Heading B8M part A [Also in Division F2] A cable drum, which is rotatable by a ("stroking") lever-operated ratchet, is made by fusing together two sintered components one of which forms a ratchet wheel and the other of which combines a side plate and core section. The drum 1 shown, comprising a ratchet wheel 2, is rotatably mounted on an axle 3 extending between a back-plate 4 and a cover-plate 5 secured thereto. A portion 9 of operating lever 8 is freely pivotable on axle 3 and a spring- washer 10 presses the drum towards the backplate and against lever 9 and provides a braking torque operative on the drum. A stud 6 provides a bearing for a spring-loaded holding pawl 13 and an application pawl 15 pivotally mounted on lever 8 is pressed into engagement with ratchet wheel 2 by a spring 16. Movement of lever 8 in the "freewheeling" direction is limited by interengagement of pawls 13 and 15 at faces A and B, C and D which relieves both pawls from the wheel 2 (and hence relieves cable tension). The drum is formed by sintered components 40 and 41 fused together and providing ratchet wheel 2 and combined side plate 42 and core 43 a spigot portion 44 of which fits in an aperture 45. Portion 44 is cut away in alignment with the inner edge of a chordal groove 46 wherein the end of the cable is anchored by a grub-screw (not shown). |
