PURPOSE: To stabilize the operation of battery, and to improve the lifetime by impregnating a porous metal with the electrochemical active material in the condition that a metal surface is exposed so as to form an electrode. CONSTITUTION: A metal surface is formed with a required pattern by masking, and thereafter, the metal surface is coated with the electrochemical active material so as to be impregnated with the active material by pressurizing. For example, a flat rope type synthetic resin tape at a constant width is spirally wound around a rectangular porous metal plate for masking, and the porous metal plate is coated with the active material, and pressurized so that the porous surface is impregnated with the active material, and thereafter, the tape is eliminated so as to generate an impregnated part 15, a metal exposed surface 14, or a part 16, of which one side is impregnated with the active material. Existence of the metal exposed surface helps the flow of the gaseous material, and recombination of oxygen of a negative electrode during the time of over-charge of a battery and the recombination of hydrogen of a positive electrode during the time of over-discharge is quickened. Operation of battery is thereby stabilized, and the lifetime is prolonged. |
