PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic element having high output characteristics, such that, the stability of a reproducing waveform is enhanced by reducing asymmetry and side reading is not generated, with respect to a spin valve type thin film magnetic element for a thin film magnetic head and to provide its manufacturing method and the thin film magnetic head using it. SOLUTION: The ferri-free spin valve type thin film magnetic element of a bottom type has a structure wherein a bias layer 7 is provided so as to be extended to a part of the upper surface of a ferri-free magnetic layer 4 and an electrode layer 8 is also provided so as to be extended onto the extended part of the bias layer 7. In the manufacturing method, a one resist method or a two resist method can be utilized.
