An aid which assists the handicapped person or their helpers when moving, for example, from wheelchair to bed or other furniture (figure 1), or possibly a car seat. The aid comprises a lightweight board, which is partially crescent shaped and provided with a slide device, a folded wing (figure 2), which by its construction means that the force that must be used in order to move a person from one side of the slider board to the other is minimised. The folded slide wing is fixed at one end, without the use of any tools, in a centre groove transversely across the slider board, it being possible to insert a thickening at this end seam into a circular, triangular or rectangular opening designed for the purpose (figure 2A), which opens towards the surface of the board through a narrow gap. The gap obstructs the passage of the thickened seam so that the folded slide wing is firmly held at all times no matter in which direction tension is applied when edging across the slider board. The folded slide wings are made of three different materials (figure 2A). The innermost is a smooth material, which can slide virtually without friction against its opposing side. The outermost material is polyurethane, which provides strength and good friction with the person's clothing. The intermediate layer is a rubber material, which reinforces the wing so the forward sliding undulation can occur without formation of unnecessary wrinkles. In the flat position the folded slide wing forms an oblique rectangle with two right angles at the outer corners and the other two angles at the fixing are greater and less than 90 degrees respectively (figure 2). This construction means that the folded slide wing during its movement from A to B moves in a circular arc measured by the movement of the outer edge. This at the same time means that the person's sitting position also describes a circular arc, so that his or her position corresponds better to the new position that is to be adopted, than if movement were undertaken in a straight line. <IMAGE>
