[Problem] To prevent communication traffic from affecting an archiving process, in which a file is replaced with a dummy file. [Solution] A storage system 1 copies a file which is stored on primary storage 11 which is on a primary storage server 10 to secondary storage 21 which is on a secondary storage server 20, ensuring a backup state in which a backup file of the file which is on the primary storage 11 is stored on the secondary storage 21. In said backup state, archiving is carried out in which the file which is stored on the primary storage 11 is replaced with a dummy file, thus obviating the necessity for communication between the primary storage server 10 and the secondary storage server 20 during the archiving.
