[Class 100 (ii)] Inking - apparatus.-In a rotary stencil duplicating machine, ink is applied to the inking roller in the form of a strip from the nozzle or opening of an inking device attached to the duplicator and adapted to travel substantially at right-angles to the direction of travel of the stencil. In one form, Fig. 1, the nozzle is carried by a U-tube 15 slidably mounted in a guide tube 19 and carrying an indicator 20, opposite to the nozzle, provided with a handle 21 by which the nozzle may be traversed along the inking roller. Ink is supplied to the pipe 15 by a pipe 22 and a pump or an ink container under pressure. In a second form, Fig. 3, a rotary tube 29 having a helical slot is mounted on a fixed tube 28 having a straight slot, the point of intersection of the slots forming the ink outlet opening which travels longitudinally of the tubes as the tube 29 is rotated. This tube is connected by gearing 30, 31 with a tube 32 having a helical slot, of opposite hand to that in the tube 29, in which is slidably mounted an operating member 33 having a pointer 34 opposite to the ink outlet opening. The ink container may be in the form of a cylinder in which the ink is maintained under pressure by a piston which may be loaded by springs. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also (1) forms of portable inking-apparatus comprising an ink container and a pump rigidly connected together, the pump being actuated by the finger or thumb of the operator. These constructions form the subject-matter of Specification 491,065; (2) the construction shown in Fig. 6 (Cancelled) which comprises an ink container 45 and pump 43 carried by a U-tube 42 having an ink nozzle 41, the pump being actuated by the handle 44 and the whole inking device being movable longitudinally of the inking roller 40 by a handle 46.
