A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating hypertension, and a health food are provided to inhibit the activity of angiotensin-converting enzyme, thereby preventing the contraction of a blood vessel and lowering the blood pressure. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating hypertension comprises 0.1-50 wt% of an extract of Raphanus sativus var. or the pinitol represented by the formula A as an active ingredient. Preferably the extract is obtained by using a solvent selected from water, a C1-C4 alcohol or their mixture solvent.
