PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating agent for a water treatment filter medium which is excellent in durability against an oxidant such as sodium hypochlorite and the like and an alkali agent such as sodium hydroxide and the like and where hydrophilicity can be maintained for a long period.SOLUTION: In a coating agent for a water treatment filter medium containing a water soluble resin (A) and a crosslinking agent (B): the water soluble resin (A) is (i) polyvinyl alcohol (A1), (ii) a mixture of the polyvinyl alcohol (A1) and a polyvinyl pyrrolidone (A2), (iii) a copolymer (A3) having a polyvinyl alcohol structure and a polyvinyl pyrrolidone structure or (iv) a mixture of at least one kind selected from among the polyvinyl alcohol (A1) and the polyvinyl pyrrolidone (A2) and the copolymer (A3); and the crosslinking agent (B) is at least one kind selected from among an oxazoline compound (B1) and a carbodiimide compound (B2).
