PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member that has high heat resistance, is easily manufactured and thinned, and hardly causes the deterioration in sliding characteristics and to provide a method for manufacturing the sliding member.SOLUTION: The sliding member has a metal layer, a resin layer laminated on the front side of the metal layer and an adhesion layer laminated between the metal layer and the resin layer. The resin layer is composed mainly of a phenolic resin. The adhesion layer is laminated on the surface of the metal layer and has a first adhesion layer comprising a porous metal film and a resin material filled in voids of the metal film in which the resin material is composed mainly of a phenolic resin and a second adhesion layer laminated between the first adhesion layer and the resin layer and composed mainly of a phenolic resin. Preferably, the content of the phenolic resin in the second adhesion layer is larger than that of the phenolic resin in the resin layer. The porous metal film of the first adhesion layer is preferably a sintered body of metal particles.
