PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a near-field optical probe high in resolution and high in detection efficiency, which can be employed in a near-field optical microscope capable of carrying out a measurement with a S/N ratio better than conventional ones, and to provide a method and an apparatus for manufacturing the near-field optical probe. SOLUTION: In the near-field optical probe A which is made up by sharpening one end of an optical fiber 2 composed of a cladding section 21 and a core section 22 having different refractive indices, the cladding section 21 including the core section 22 is made concave, and the head 22a of the core section is brought to project from the end 21a of the cladding section.
