PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device with excellent usability enabling a user to assume that the suppression of information provided to the user results from the illegal use of map data. SOLUTION: This navigation device comprises a map information updating means 13 updating map information stored in a map information storage means 11 based on map updating information read from a storage medium installed in a storage medium drive means 12, a mounting detection means 14 detecting the mounting of the storage medium, a map information ID collating means 15 determining the matching of a map information ID attached to the map information with a map information ID attached to the map updating information, a map information selection control means 16 which, when the mounting of the storage medium is detected and the matching of the map information ID with each other is determined, selects all of the map information stored in the map information storage means and, when it is not detected, selects a part of the map information stored in the map information storage means, a navigation information calculation means 17 generating navigation information based on the selected map information, and a navigation information output means 18 outputting the generated navigation information.
