PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for manufacturing a solid electrolytic capacitor in which an electrolyte layer is formed by oxidation polymerization and a high capacitance emergence rate is attained. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a solid electrolytic capacitor comprises steps of: forming a dielectric layer by depositing an oxide film on the surface of a valve metal substrate; forming an electrolyte layer on the dielectric layer by immersing the valve metal substrate into polymerization liquid containing a monomer and an oxidizing agent; and forming a conductor layer on the electrolyte layer. In the step for forming an electrolyte layer, the valve metal substrate is left, as it is, in the air under humidity conditions of 35%RH-60%RH after it is immersed into the polymerization liquid.
