PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily repair a plasma torch insertion portion of a furnace cover by a small number of persons for a short time. SOLUTION: The melting furnace includes: a furnace body 11 having a hollow inner part and an opened upper part; the furnace cover 32 constituted of a body cover 32a covering the opening of the furnace body 11 and a central cover 32b fitted to a through hole formed in a central portion of the body cover 32a; a plasma torch 15 inserted to the through hole 32b1 formed in the central portion of the central cover 32b; and a furnace bottom electrode 16 arranged in a bottom position of the furnace body 11 opposing to the plasma torch 15. Voltage is applied between the plasma torch 15 and the furnace bottom electrode 16, and a molten object stored in the furnace body 11 is molten by heat by plasma arc generated by the voltage application. In this configuration, a cylindrical sleeve 32c formed of refractory is fitted to the through hole 32b1 of the central cover 32b, and the plasma torch 15 is inserted to a through hole 32c1 of the sleeve 32c.
