PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for developing antibacterial property in which a nanofiber per se can develop an antibacterial property without adding an antibacterial agent by making a predetermined polymer into nanofibers.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for developing an antibacterial property for a fiber including a polymer having an electron withdrawing group and/or an electron withdrawing atomic group, in which the ratio of the binding energy of the electron withdrawing group and/or the electron withdrawing atomic group included in a minimum unit of the polymer at 25°C to the binding energy of the minimum unit of the polymer at 25°C is 0.13 or more and the fiber has an average fiber diameter of not less than 1 nm and less than 1000 nm.
