The present invention relates to a multi-stage fluidized bed coal dryer and a coal drying method using the same to allow the utilization of surplus gas or waste gas in the fluidization and drying of coal. The multi-stage fluidized bed coal dryer supplies coal to the inside of a main body part through a coal supply part; dries the supplied coal with high temperature gas supplied from the gas supply part while a round current part makes the coal flow round the inside of the main body part; discharges the high temperature gas which has dried the coal through a gas discharge part; and discharges the dries coal through a coal discharge part. Therefore, the present invention allows an increase in the total residence time of the coal in the multi-stage fluidized bed coal dryer and a decrease in the installation area of the multi-stage fluidized bed coal dryer; and makes the best use of the sensible heat of the high temperature gas to improve the drying efficiency of the multi-stage fluidized bed coal dryer.
