The invention is concerned with testing user equipment when operating in a carrier aggregation mode. Apparatus is disclosed to emulate the network side, which includes first and second transceivers. The inventors address the specific situation of user equipment which transmits rank indicator (RI) or/and precoder type indicator (PTI) bits in a first subframe over a first component carrier and which then transmits channel quality indicator (CQI) or/and precoding matrix indicator (PMI) bits in subsequent and adjacent second subfame over a second component carrier. The first component carrier is received by the first transceiver and the second component carrier by the second transceiver. It is necessary for the RI/PTI to be decoded before the CQI/PMI can be decoded. The inventors have therefore provided a direct physical link between the transceivers so that RI/PTI bits received by the first transceiver in the first subframe can be decoded and transmitted to the second transceiver before the expiration of the second subframe so as to be available for CQI/PMI decoding. The direct physical link may take the form of a serial peripheral interface (SPI). |
