PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which can effectively increase an emission area of a light emitting element.SOLUTION: A light emitting device according to the present embodiment comprises: a substrate; a light emitting element mounted on the substrate; a translucent member placed on a top face of the light emitting element; and an encapsulation member for encapsulating the light emitting element and the translucent member. The translucent member is a tabular member which does not contain a fluorescent substance and which is larger than the light emitting element when viewed from above. The encapsulation member is composed of a light reflective member which reflects emitted light of the light emitting element and includes a first encapsulation member which covers a lateral face of the light emitting element and a second encapsulation member which contains a fluorescent substance for converting the emitted light of the light emitting element to light of different wavelengths and covers at least a top face of a first translucent member.
