<p>A method and corresponding devices are disclosed for compression of N-bit frequency domain samples. The sample represents a single frequency tone of a time domain symbol. The time domain symbol is to be sent or sent over a transport link (224) from a first transceiver network component (220, 223) to a second transceiver network component (220, 223). The N-bit frequency domain sample further represents Kf bits of binary payload data as a constellation point of a constellation diagram. The method comprises several steps. First, a reference bitloading profile (401, 312) is obtained comprising a maximum number of bits Lf that may be loaded onto the single frequency tone. Then, a quantized number of bits Mf greater than or equal to Lf is chosen (311). Finally, the N-bit frequency domain sample is quantized to an Mf-bit frequency domain sample according to the quantized number of bits Mf.</p> |
