<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology that effectively reduces a volume of pixel data for focus detection obtained from an image pickup element plurally having photoelectric conversion areas.SOLUTION: A defocus-amount detection device is configured to: compose an output signal of a pixel having a plurality of photoelectric conversion areas divided in a predetermined direction for each photoelectric conversion area; generate a plurality of image signals for focus detection from the composed signal; and detect an amount of defocus on the basis of an amount of correlation among the plurality of image signals. For a plurality of pixel block rows having a pixel block of a preliminarily predetermined size arranged in the predetermined direction, the composite signal is generated for each pixel block. Further, when the number of pixels in the predetermined direction included in the pixel block exceeds the predetermined number thereof, a plurality of pixel block rows generates the composite signal so as to include a pixel block row in which a boundary position of the pixel block is different.</p> |
