Items of jewellery and a method of producing such items

A method of producing a jewellery item comprising producing an annular or partially annular substrate 2 formed with a plurality of slots 4 extending from its inner periphery towards its outer periphery. Producing a plurality of insert members 12 each formed with a slot (16 figure 2) and at least two bordered openings (22 figure 2) one to each side of the slot. The insert members being designed such that their slots inter-engage the slots on the annular substrate. Gemstones 24 are then located between each the pair of neighboring insert members with edges of each gem stone or the like located in the openings formed in the insert members. The gems may be secured in place through the use of tack or laser welding the insert members to the annular substrate.
