The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for correcting the GPS error of a container tracer to accurately trace containers by correcting GPS position error through a verification process of information, the determination of vehicle movement, and the effectiveness determination of the collected GPS data. The present invention comprises a position tracer which notifies the current position using a GPS receiver within an apparatus by being attached to the container; a position collecting server to collect GPS data provided from the position tracers; a GPS position determination module to collect the GPS position error through the verification process of the information, the determination of the vehicle movement, and the effectiveness determination of the collected GPS data; a middleware server to execute the process of gradient value, the latitude of the vehicle, data related to the movement, and an equipment ID; and a DB to store the data of a process for collecting the GPS position error.
