Class 98(2) A composite product comprises an image-carrying layer and a framing mask for a processing liquid which is spread in contact with the imagecarrying layer, the mask being heat-sealed to the layer by a strippable adhesive bond comprising two layers, the bonding layer closest to the mask having a greater affinity for the mask than for the other bonding layer, andthe latter having a greater affinity for the image carrying layer than it has for the first bonding layer. Incompatible plastic materials such as a layer of polyvinyl alcohol and a layer of ethyl cellulose may be used as bonding layers. The mask may extend over perforations, defining an image area portion, in the image carrying layer. As shown the image-carrying layer 12 preferably comprising baryta paper treated as described in Specification 703,231 has an image area 12a defined by a cut-away portion of the framing mask 14, and the framing mask carries a container 16 with processing liquid 17 which may be as described in Specification 684,592. In use the product together with an exposed silver halide emulsion layer 10 is passed between a pair of pressure rolls 40 to release the liquid and spread it between the layers 10, 12 to produce a positive image on the image-carrying layer. Spacing strips 20 on the mask 14, and trapping members 18 for liquid spread beyond the area 12a are provided to facilitate the spreading operation. After processing is completed the image area portion carrying the image at 12a may be torn away from the mask along perforations 22, this operation being facilitated by inserting a fingernail through hole 24. |
