PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of improving efficiency of a workpiece attachment/detachment operation.SOLUTION: An article transport device includes left and right transport tables 3 and 4; and a transport portal frame 9 transporting a workpiece on the selected transport table from a workpiece inlet side to a machine working unit. The transport tables 3 and 4 alternately move longitudinally. A longitudinally movable projecting member 19 provided on a horizontal frame 15 of the transport portal frame 9 includes lifting/pressing means 17. At a projecting position, the lifting/pressing means 17 temporarily clamps the workpiece on the retreated transport table. In this state, the transport table and the movable projecting member 19 move forward. The lifting/pressing means 17 actually clamps the workpiece on the transport table that moved forward. In this state, the transport table and the transport portal frame 9 are moved integrally to the machine working unit 7a, in which the workpiece is milled. Thereafter, the transport portal frame 9 returns to the workpiece inlet side and the transport table moves backward. |
