The pliers have an adjustable mouth width wherein the movable jaw (30) is guided through a guide with two flat contact bearing faces (64) which are parallel to the pivotal axis (29) at the sides on the first gripper arm (12) corresponding to a flat bearing face on the movable jaw. A corresponding opposing flat bearing face (68) is formed on a guide nose moulded on the movable jaw whilst the second gripper arm (14) is guided in a longitudinal slit (42) passing through the first gripper arm and/or the guide nose. The swivel pivot (28) for the two gripper arms is guided in a slit (48) parallel to the guide slit (42).
