PURPOSE: A machine tool and a tool change method are provided to move a small tool not interfered with a tool change arm quickly and a large tool slowly for the efficient moving of tools. CONSTITUTION: A machine tool comprises a receiving unit, a machining unit(5), a changing unit, a first moving unit, a second moving unit(4), and a control unit. The receiving unit accommodates a plurality of tools. The machining unit works a workpiece by using a tool. The changing unit changes a tool mounted in the machining unit with a tool accommodated in a receiving unit. The first moving unit moves the tool in the receiving unit to a standby position for change. The second moving unit moves the machining unit and the changing unit. The control unit controls the moving speed of the first moving unit. |
