A releasable binding for securing the heel of a ski boot to a ski comprises a plate 12 for attachment to the bottom of the ski boot heel said plate being provided with a central aperture 18 which is adapted to receive a cylindrical boss 15 upstanding from a plate 30 fixed to the ski, the boss having two pins 19 mounted in recesses therein, the pins being normally spring-urged outwardly of the boss to engage in grooves cut in the plate 12, thus locating and holding the boot heel in place on the ski. The pins 19 operate under the action of leaf springs 20 mounted in an aperture in the boss 15 and adjustable by means of screw 25, the outer ends of the pins being bevelled to co-operate, when the boot and ski are in their correct relative positions, with bevelled portions 13c formed in the pin-receiving grooves of the plate 12, the said grooves each comprising recesses 13a and 13b, one on each side of the portion 13c. Thus in the event of the boots tilting forwards, portions 13c of the heel plate cause pins 19 to retract against the action of springs 20 to release the boot from the ski, and in the event of the boot's twisting relative to the ski, the pins slide off the portions 13c into one of the recesses 13a or 13b so that again the plate 12 can pass up over the boss 15 and the boot is released from the ski.</p> |
