The present invention relates to a method and a device for determining a heartbeat period of a push service in a wireless network. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for determining the heartbeat period of the push service in a terminal of the wireless network comprises: a step of transmitting a registration request message including terminal information and network information to a registration server; a step of receiving a registration response message including ping period information from the registration server; a step of generating a push server and a push channel; and a step of determining the heartbeat period using the received ping period information. According to the present invention, When the push service is used and when the ping period is determined in a ping message for maintaining long-lived connection with the terminal, the dependence and the unnecessary calculation of the terminal can be reduced. Namely, the operation process or power consumption of the terminal can be reduced by enabling the terminal to calculate a self algorithm or to use the predetermined ping period and to determine the ping period in a server. An optimal ping period which is suit on a network condition can be determined. Furthermore, the ping message transmission of the terminal and the overload of the network which frequently occurred can be avoided by dynamically applying the ping period to the networks according to the condition of the respective networks.
