The method involves providing a conveying path with a feed pump and a reverse conveying path with a reverse conveying pump for reverse conveying of fluid medium i.e. urea solution. The conveying pump includes a switching valve for a return pipe, and a rinse is provided within a conveying- and dosing system to monitor actuators and/or sensors and/or for an alignment of models in the system. The medium is conveyed from a urea solution tank by an activation of the feed pump while closing a metering unit, and conveying pump is activated for the reverse conveying of the medium.
