PURPOSE: A motor driven power steering device equipped with torque compensation logic and a control method thereof are provided to improve driving convenience by optimizing steering power by corresponding to the environmental change of a road. CONSTITUTION: A motor driven power steering device(1) comprises a drive motor unit(10), an ARS motor unit(20), and a control unit(30). The drive motor unit corresponds to the steering of a steering wheel and drives a rack. The ARS motor unit controls the tension of an ARS. The control unit comprises MDPS basic logic(32), road judgment logic(34), compensation logic(36), and motor control logic(38). The MDPS basic logic produces a drive torque to control the drive motor unit interlocked with the rack by using steering torque from the torque sensor. The road judgment logic judges the condition of a road by using a steering angle velocity. The compensation logic produces a control torque for controlling an ARS motor unit by corresponding to road conditions. The motor control logic drives the drive motor unit by using the compensated drive torque.
