The device has filter housing (7) for accommodating a filter element (3) that defines a longitudinal axis (25). A bypass valve and a counterbalance valve are arranged along the axis and concentric to the axis. A prefill valve is in an arrangement concentric to the axis. The cover part adjoins to an upper end region of the element and to a filter inlet (35) for return fluid and to a filter outlet (33) for cleaned fluid. The bypass valve is arranged in a region of the cover part.
