The method involves receiving inputs from a user for creating a program code part for a programmable logic controller (PLC) (400) and for storing the inputs as programming frame extensions (210-230). The stored programming frame extensions are displayed as a selection possibility for a user. The inputs are received from the user relative to the selection of the programming frame extensions. An application program code is automatically produced for the PLC using the program code part of the selected programming frame extensions.
