1,178,372. Making deflection systems for cathode-ray tubes. W. GERHARD. 27 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967], No. 9426/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H1] A deflection system for a cathode-ray tube, particularly a colour television tube, is made by forming a ring-shaped core 1 by winding an iron wire 20, insulated by a lacquer layer and provided with a thermoplastic cover, on to a mandrel, electrically heating the wire to bake together adjacent windings of the thermoplastic cover, whereupon the wire ring is divided into two halves, each of which, Fig. 2, is surrounded with a vertical deflection coil 2a, 2b, after which the two halves are joined together and mounted on one side of a holder carrying the horizontal deflection coils 4a, 4b. Prior to uniting the two halves together, the faces 20 of the wires in each half are ground. The wire may have a diameter of 0À2-0À4 mm. The core 1 may be compressed in a mould during the heating step.
|
