A method performed by a data processing apparatus, in which the method includes selecting an object in which the object represents input defining a drawing, each drawing comprising location coordinates and temporal coordinates, in which each location coordinate is associated with a respective temporal coordinate; associating the object with a respective clock in a hierarchy of clocks, each clock in the hierarchy having a respective rate of progression that is coupled to the rate of progression of one or more parent clocks in the hierarchy; and generating an animation by drawing the location coordinates according to the rate of progression of the clock associated with the object.
