<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional imaging apparatus having a first housing including an imaging device and a second housing rotatable with the first housing including a bent optical system requires a rotation angle detection part to detect a rotation angle of the second housing in order to correct a rotation of an image projected on the imaging device during recording, thereby increasing the size of the imaging apparatus because a gyro or stepping motor is incorporated into the imaging apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: a first housing including an imaging device; a second housing attached rotatably with the first housing including a bent optical system; a shielding part to shield a part of an optical path projected on the imaging device; image recognition means to detect the shielded part from a taken image; and image direction determination means to determine the top and bottom of the image from the detected shielded part.
