PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display including the same are provided to reduce the light reflected from a light entry part by separating a reflection sheet from a light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: A light guide plate(160) is parallel to light emitting diodes(150). An optical sheet(140) is arranged on the light guide plate. A reflection sheet(170) is arranged under the light guide plate. A reflection pattern(169) is formed on the light guide plate. The reflection pattern is formed in a region which is corresponds to the light entry part. The gap between the light emitting diode and the reflection sheet is larger than that of the light emitting diode and the light guide plate.
