The intrascleral-cavity antiglaucoma valve is a device related to the surgical treatment of glaucoma. This valve comprises a body (B) to be positioned in a sac created surgically in the sclera of the eye, and a tubule (T) to be positioned in the anterior chamber of the eye. The sclera (F) above the valve is tightly sutured so that the valve is positioned in the sclera completely. The outflow of the aqueous humor is effected to the intrascleral vein networks as well as to the suprachoroid space (SC). This valve is essentially incorporated as a closed system in the normal outflow network of the aqueous humor of the eye and exploits the normal self-adjustment mechanisms of the intraocular pressure. Thus, the risk of post-surgical hypotonia due to aqueous humor ultrafiltration is reduced, whereas, since the valve is positioned intrasclerally, the risk of encystment, infection or injury is also reduced. The proposed valve design may be applied in the surgical treatment of glaucoma. |
