PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for soft demmaping having two dimensional LLR(log-likelihood ratio) performance are provided to detect an LLR value using a shifted table method. CONSTITUTION: A receiving unit(110) receives a QAM(quadrature amplitude modulation) signal and channel information through two channels. A detection unit(120) detects an LLR value about the QAM signal using a shifted table method. A decoding unit(130) decodes detected LLR value. An area selecting unit(140) designates a sub-area of the QAM signal corresponding to obtained bit information from the decoded LLR value. An operation unit(150) calculates the LLR value of other bit information which is included in the designated sub-area. The detection unit detects the LLR value about the QAM signal in one dimension.
