The method involves generating analyte ions in a sample gas stream, particularly in natural atmospheric pressure. The sample gas stream and a carrier gas stream, particularly an inert gas stream are separately fed into one or more channels. The channels are particularly designed as capillaries (2a,3a) to a transition area between the channels. Both the channels are partially connected to each other. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for supplying analyte into a mass spectrometer, particularly in natural atmospheric pressure.
