A process for the polymerization of vinyl fluoride comprises continuously introducing into a reactor maintained at constant temperature and at superatmospheric pressure, vinyl fluoride, water, a water-soluble polymerization reaction initiator and a monoolefin of at least 3 carbon atoms in a proportion of 10 to 10,000 parts per million by weight of the vinyl fluoride, maintaining the contents of the reactor in a highly dispersed, substantially homogeneous state, continuously removing from the reactor a slurry of vinyl fluoride polymer and water and recovering the vinyl fluoride polymer from the slurry. Specified monoolefins are propylene, butene-1, butene-2 and methyl propene. Many suitable initiators are listed including alkali metal and ammonium salts of inorganic per acids, organic peroxides and azo compounds. Examples describe the polymerization of vinyl fluoride in the presence of (I to V) propylene and (VI) isobutylene using 2,2 <SP>1</SP>-diguanyl-2,2 <SP>1</SP>-azopropane dihydrochloride as initiator. The products may be compounded with plasticisers, stabilizers, softeners, modifiers, dyes, pigments and fillers, and used for making films, foils, sheets, ribbons, bands, rods and tubes and for coating fabrics, leather and paper.
