PURPOSE: An X-ray imaging apparatus and a controlling method thereof are provided to obtain the information of a clear photographic image by automatically controlling an optimal distance in a photographing process. CONSTITUTION: An angle of an X-ray irradiation apparatus(400) is controlled by a plurality of handles(402). A dosage control device(401) controls an amount of a X-ray irradiated. A forward and reverse drive motor(406) transfers the X-ray irradiation apparatus to the left and right. A pinion(408) perform a rotational motion according to the drive of the forward and reverse drive motor. A rack(407) changes the rotational motion of the pinion to a linear motion. A vertical driving motor(403) transfers the irradiation apparatus to the upward and downward direction. A helical axis(404') is combined with a female screw part of a lateral support by a screw. The rack is attached to an upper rail(409). A pillar is carried on a bottom rail(410) to the left and right.
