PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition and a method designed for searching for the existence or the amount of biological active natriuretic peptide in a sample or a fragment thereof.

SOLUTION: There is provided a method for detecting the existence or the amount of biological active natriuretic peptide in a sample. The method includes the embodiment of assay with which biological active natriuretic peptide can be detected, indeed, but more than one signal from biological inactive fragments of natriuretic peptide is reduced to at least one fifth. The assay is preferably not so sensitive as to detect the signal. Further, there is provided a composition which inhibits the previously unknown way of decomposition of natriuretic peptide.
