<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid an erroneous diagnosis when the property of fuel changes through supply of fuel oil, in a system of diagnosing a failure of a particulate filter arranged in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine includes: the particulate filter arranged in the exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine; and a PM sensor arranged downstream of the particulate filter in the exhaust passage. When a detection value of the PM sensor, after supplying the fuel, satisfies failure conditions of the particulate filter, a change in the property of the fuel is detected based on a detection value of the PM sensor when the first PM regenerating processing after supplying the fuel is completed and a detection value of the PM sensor when the PM regenerating processing before supplying the fuel is completed, and a diagnosis whether the particulate filter is failed or not is done in response to a result of the detection. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
