PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing apparatus which is capable of photographing a beautiful image with great background blur and, in particular, creating spot light source blur. SOLUTION: In response to a release instruction, a first image is photographed at a first aperture value (S21, S22). After the first image is completely photographed, first image data are read out by an imaging means, an aperture operation to a second aperture value is performed in parallel (S23), and a second image is photographed at the second aperture value (S24). After the photographing is completed, second image data are read out by the imaging means (S25), amounts of changes in local contrast values of the first image data and the second image data are detected, and blur processing is performed with a blur strength corresponding to the amount of change locally on the first or second image data (S35-S44). During blur processing,γexpansion 208 is partially performed on a high-luminance portion of image data output from an imaging device 107, and blur processing is then carried out.
