[Also in Group XXII] The segmental stator blade ring of a turbine or compressor is supported in a stator blade casing 2 by circular supporting surfaces 14 formed on ribs 8 and is made of flexible material, the diameter of the ring being larger than that of the supporting surfaces so that after the segments have been cut and inserted into the casing between adjacent ribs, the ring is forced against the supporting surfaces so that the cut edges of the segments abut each other. The diameter of the supported surfaces of the ring are greater than the diameter of the supporting surfaces 14 by an amount equal to the sum of circumferential thicknesses of the cuts divided by #. The stator blades 20 are assembled on the ring before it is cut into segments and the distance d between adjacent blades which are to be separated by a cut is made greater than the distance e between other adjacent blades by an amount c equal to the circumferential thickness of the cut, so that after the segments have been cut and assembled, all the blades are equally spaced. The ribs 8 are of T-shape and the supporting surfaces are formed on flanges 12. The stator blade ring has a pair of off-set'rib portions 24 engaging the supporting surfaces 14. The ring segments are forced against the surfaces 14 by air or gas under pressure in the space 32 outside the ring. In the case of a compressor, the air may be bled from the compressor itself through holes in downstream portions of the rings. Specification 809,811 is referred to. |
