PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve production efficiency by eliminating work for loading films when joined in the atmosphere. SOLUTION: This film carrying device includes first and second chambers 30A, 30B in which film rolls 1, 2 are arranged and which are in a vacuum condition but openable to the atmosphere, and a third chamber 30C which is located between the first and second chambers and which is in a vacuum condition, wherein connection film starting end fixing devices 5 are installed in the first and second chambers, respectively, and a connection film starting end gripping and drawing device 7 and a film joining device 10 are installed in the third chamber. When the rolls 1, 2 in the first and second chambers are replaced, only one of the first and second chambers where the rolls are changed over is opened to the atmosphere, a new roll is arranged therein, the chamber opened to the atmosphere is put into a vacuum condition after the front end of a connection film of the new roll is fixed to the fixing device 5, a film carrying port 15 of the chamber opened to the atmosphere is opened, the connection film having a starting end fixed is drawn into the third chamber 30C by the drawing device 7, and the starting end of the connection film 4a is joined to the finishing end of a preceding film 4 with the film joining device 10.
