PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the measurement accuracy of an ear type thermometer. SOLUTION: The ear type thermometer is configured to detect that the distal surface 27A of a probe 27 is inserted into a position projecting from a second curve 11B which is positioned in the inner part of a first curve 11A of the external acoustic meatus 5, by a distance detecting section 30, to improve a probability of performing an infrared temperature measurement, with the distal surface 27A of the probe 27 fully facing the tympanic membrane 3.
