<p>In an induction furnace (1) control and/or regulation method in a rolling mill (20), where the condition of a section (X) of a rolled article (G) is determined at a first point, a future actual variable in this section is determined at second point(s) (R,R1,R2,R3,Ri,RN) using a model (5) for section energy state or energy supply. A nominal variable is determined at the second point(s). The induction coils (2) are controlled/regulated based on deviations between actual and nominal variables. A method is claimed for controlling and/or regulating the induction furnace (1) of a rolling mill (20), where rolled articles (G) run through an induction furnace with induction coils (2) and the condition of a section (X) of the article is determined at a first reference point (preferably before the article enters the furnace). The novel feature is that a future actual variable in this section (X) is determined at at least one second reference point (R,R1,R2,R3,Ri,RN) using a model (5) describing the energy state of this section or the energy supply characteristics. A desired nominal variable is determined at the second reference point(s); and the induction coils are controlled and/or regulated on the basis of deviations between the future actual and nominal variables, preferably such that the actual variable approximates to the nominal variable at the reference point(s). Independent claims are included for: (1) a controller and/or regulator (9) for a rolling mill (20), including a machine-readable program code (10) providing a control command for carrying out the above process; and (2) a rolling mill (20) for producing rolled articles (G), including an induction furnace (1) with induction coils (2) for heating rolled articles passing through the furnace, where a controller and/or regulator (9) as above is operatively connected to the induction coils.</p> |
