The invention relates to a method for compensating for unbalance in an electric power supply, having two alternative modes of implementation, namely a) continuous variable and b) discrete variable in steps, comprising the following stages: acquisition of signals; measurement of currents; measurement of active power and reactive power; calculation of unbalance power values; establishment of a reference value that can be the value of the active and reactive steps or the maximum value of the active and reactive currents; and calculation of the admittance values of the compensator and the compensator current in the case of a variable compensator, in which the device includes a power circuit (capacitors and coils) and a control circuit (signal acquisition and unbalance value measurement programme).
