EVAPORATIVE DUPLEX COUNTERHEAT EXCHANGER

A duplex exchanger (22) includes first and second heat exchangers (24, 26) each including a main flow channel (28, 32) and a cooperating counterheat channel (30, 34). The first counterheat channel (30) is joined to the first main flow channel (28) for receiving a cooled primary stream (18) therefrom. The second counterheat channel (34) is also joined to the first main channel (28) splitting the primary stream therefrom. An evaporative coolant (38) is injected into the first counterheat channel (30), and an evaporative saturant (38) is injected into the second counterheat channel (34). Heat from the initially hot primary stream (18) in the first exchanger (24) evaporates the coolant in the first counterheat channel (30) for self-cooling the primary stream in the first main channel (28). Heat from a hot secondary stream (20) channeled through the second main channel (32) evaporates the saturant in the second counterheat channel (34) for adding mass to the primary stream channeled therethrough.
